A harrowing Halloween adventure

Noah has had his first negative (okay, very negative) experience with Halloween on Monday, poor little guy. We had a few errands to run at Target and with the end of September fast approaching, I figured it would be good to get a few Halloween decorations. Tim and I have never invested in a ton of holiday decorations (other than Christmas) since we haven't been able to buy a house to decorate. Our very meager supply is really starting to look at little pathetic, especially since many of the decorations were leftover from my college dorm days...sad, I know! We managed to find many of the other random items on our shopping list and made our way over to check out the costumes in search of the perfect one for the little man this year, but no luck this time. As I was making we made our way around to the decorations, things started to get a bit hairy. Noah caught sight of this lovely creature and this one too. He was NOT impressed. I hadn't noticed right away, but when I looked down in the cart, Noah was getting all teary-eyed and started grabbing at my shirt. As I bent down to hug him, I asked him what he was scared of, he whipped right around, pointed accusingly the the zombie butler man and said, "DAT." I told him that he was indeed a yucky looking thing wasn't he, and that he was making funny noises, but that he was not real and he was just plastic and wasn't going to come near him. He wasn't buying it naturally and instead burst into complete hysterics, grabbing frantically at my shirt and asking for "Uppies," and "Out." I asked him if we could drive the cart by the creatures so we could leave the area and go look at some books, but he wasn't having that either. So we backed out of the decoration section, with a sobbing wee man clutching my shirt for dear life as I was leaning over the front of the cart comforting him. The young kid stocking the area got a good laugh, but the Halloween scariness is apparently not a laughing matter! :) Let's just hope that our stroll around Memere and Pepere's neighborhood for trick or treating next month isn't quite as scary.
